Throughout my many years in school I have taught all age ranges in classes from Nursery to Year 6. I have also taught in Key Stage 3, to support individual students with English and Maths and I have taught class groups Study Skills in Year 9.
My experience as a whole school SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) enabled me to develop an understanding of the continuum of learning across key stages. Both as a class teacher and as a school leader, I have had significant overview and practical teaching experience of the ever-changing curriculum. My most recent experience in school was in an advisory role across the Key Stages from Nursery to end of Key Stage 3.
I therefore offer expertise of teaching and curriculum knowledge in:
Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
I can teach all age ranges from Nursery to Year 6 with a high level of curriculum expertise. Parents are usually looking for Maths and English support. Occasionally I am asked for science, and I can offer primary science too.
Key Stage 3
I can support Key Stage 3 children who are lower achievers or struggling to make the transition from year 6 into Key Stage 3 by revising and extending primary skills and smoothing the transition to secondary Maths and English.
I can offer study skills sessions for Key Stage 3 students to enable them to understand their own learning style, I can show them how to use suitable techniques for learning best to suit their personal learning strengths and suggest skills for optimising learning for tests and understand how to do revision.
Target Tutoring Testimonial.
Meet Emma who is pictured with me here.
“This amazing young lady has reached for the stars and proved to herself that hard work pays off. She has finished her primary school career with the SATs results she wanted; more importantly she has gained in confidence, and now has a ‘can do attitude’ which is an everlasting life skill. I’m so proud of you and your achievements Emma!”
Emma’s parents said:
”Thank you so much for your wonderful help and support. You should both be very proud of your achievements. Huge well done Emma and thank you so very much Janet for your commitment and your approach, which has brought Emma along to now have so much more enthusiasm and confidence in herself. As you said, not just English and Maths skills but ‘life’ skills as well. Thanks again for your wonderful teaching.”
The testimonial above was subsequently posted on my Facebook page and a number of people commented. One response was from the mother a girl in Year 8, who had been tutored by Target Tutoring from Year 4 to Year 7. This is what she said:
“This is so lovely to see Janet Atkinson. You are still sprinkling your special dose of teaching magic. I am so grateful for all the tutoring and self-esteem boosting you gave Ella. She received an award at the end of Year 7 last year, for the most improved grades from the beginning of the school year. She is still achieving all her grades in Year 8. Thank you”. Teresa.
