The tutor is Janet Atkinson, a qualified and vastly experienced primary teacher with relevant teaching experience across the primary age range with children of 4-11 years of age. She also has experience of class teaching Study Skills to Year 9 pupils in the last school she worked in which was a school educating children from age 2 to 16 years. With 35 years experience in the teaching profession she has been a deputy head in both an infant and a primary school, has been a whole school SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) an Acting Headteacher and a School Development Manager She initially left full-time employment after the birth of her own twins.
“My desire was to continue working part time and be the best mother I could to my own children. I wanted the time to be able to give them the benefit of my early years and structured play experience before they started school themselves.”
Starting my own business gave me the best of both worlds – continuing with the teaching work I had always found so enjoyable and satisfying, coupled with the flexibility of being there for my own children. Since starting Target Tutoring the business has gone from strength to strength and I have always retained an involvement with schools in order to remain in touch with the lastest educational methods and initiatives.
My most recent post in school was within the leadership team of a local independent school, as a the School Development Manager and as part of the learning support team, meeting the needs of all learners. In this context I worked across educational phases with children aged 2-16 years. This gave me a huge insight into the continuum of learning, as a progression of skills and attitudes, regardless of age. Since September 2015 I have worked full time at home with students at Target Tutoring. The key to success is a positive self-image coupled with creative teaching of the next step for growth, which is not necessarily linked to standard age-related expectations. My aim is to provide all children with challenge and esteeming experiences, and to support their parents, as they strive to do the best for their children. We are all lifelong learners.
I would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you and your child the best service possible.

“Janet it so professional in her tutoring approach, but more than that, she goes the extra mile to get to know the child and their family. She helps the child set goals and then provides support and guidance to get them there. She is patient and encouraging and my daughter has actually really enjoyed her tutoring experience.”
